What is a good anti-virus you can recommend?

I am having troubles with my avg 8.0 free edition anti-virus. I'm updating it regularly but it keeps on saying that the anti-virus and the anti-spyware datebase is outdated and the files are not found. Please help.

  1. Nod32 or Kaspersky would be the best anti-viruses. They are not free, however, but I think they come with a trial period.
  2. Norton Anti virus was always reliable compared to the others ive used
  3. I find Nortons to work the best. I have had Trend, AVG and a host of others. To me Nortons is the most reliable and easiest to use.
  4. I have Firefox but idk if that is an anti-virus,, its just our internet.but we also have The Shield Deluxe 2008.
  5. You just un-install Avg8.0 and then install Spyware Doctor or you install Spyware Terminator which is more better than Avg 8.0 I was also facing the same problem with my Avg but i solved it by installing Spyware terminator. Its really good and you can download it from http://www.spywareterminator.com
  6. i find AVG 8.0 is the best and it is free
  7. If you have budget for your PC security, go for Kaspersky www.kaspersky.com or Eset www.eset.com Eset is faster and cheaper and more suited to Vista In free segment, you can use AVG www.grisoft.com or Avast www.avast.com
  8. norton , xoftspy you have to pay for norton, but there's a trial:) xoftspy you can download on the internet ( www.xoftspy.com ) and you have to pay for it
  9. AVG has a place to get free help from other users of AVG. Mine is working OK.
  10. I cannot believe that you have received all these answers and no-one ever recommended the second most popular anti-virus in the Wed: Avast. Here's the link: Avast Antivirus http://www.avast.com/
  11. Try a online antivirus scanner and a online anti-adware/malware/spyware scanner in safe mode with network to clean up your computer BEFORE you download anything. This because the program you download can get infected. Disable "System Restore" for Windows Me and XP, then restart your PC to clean your system restore points for viruses, spyware, adware etc. Now restart in safe mode. To get in safe mode Press "F8" upon bootup. Select "Safe mode with Networking". Go to Start – Run - type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html Enter(ok). Do a full system scan. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network. When that scan does not find anything you reboot again in safe mode with network. Go to Start – Run – type iexplore http://www.ewido.net/en/ Enter(ok). Do a full system scan. If something is found, delete it, reboot and do the same again in safe mode with network. **NOTE: Do NOT do anything else with your computer when scanning. This because you can start virus/adware/spyware/malware manually. When no one of these scanners are showing anything you can reboot back to normal mode. Turn on "System Restore". 12. AVG 8 free is hopeless at finding viruses and spyware. Uninstall it and use AVAST! 4.8 home edition and i guarantee you will like it much better than AVG. I was a long time user of AVG free but I wanted to lower my ram (AVG is a hog of memory, and I have a fast pc) so I installed AVAST! and it found about 6-7 malware that was on my pc that AVG didnt. I also use ad-aware 2008 which takes care of adware and spyware. (Which avast does also) So please scrap AVG, it will make your system run faster and install avast.
