Is there anyway to delete viruses without downloading an anti-virus program?

I would really rather not download an anti virus program. My parents are getting mad about it. Is there anyway of tracking it down myself and killing it? If you need anymore details, just say so, I'll be watching my question.

  1. If you have a Virtual Machine (VMware preferably) than all you do it close the window and non of your "Real" OS will be touched Techniquely a Virtual machine is a "Window" or "Menu" that is on your desktop just like any ordinary one BUT it is a computer inside of it. you can install programs and even mess it up. its like a "FAKE" computer that is inside a computer. if you do ALL your work in the Virtual machine(fake computer) and u get infected by who knows what, all you do...is close the little window like closing an MSN chat and you are safe. the virus will not touch the real meal.
  2. Do a free online scan: http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/ Please e-mail me details in case its not a virus.
  3. Try to search suspicious file that has extension like .exe Sometimes folder can be New Folder.exe so delete it.
  4. there is a way that u need to know the name of the virus and them manuall find those files and delete it and also find all the files with same name then delete it and also delete settings from registry and u needed to be expert to do that................
  5. It's the same thing like getting rid of an infection in the human body without antibiotics, it just doesn't happen. You need the software that kills the virus/trojan hose/ whatever you have. You don't even know what you have without a diagnostic test, you need some software!!!!
  6. My first bit of advise is not to spend a penny on a darn thing. There are plenty of free sites out there that can help you clean your machine up. Here are few links to look at. My favorite is Trend Micro's House Call. http://housecall.trendmicro.com it rocks but I would also look at each of the below because they will help you not get it again!!! Spybot Search and Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html Windows Defender http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx Manual Spyware Removal Guide http://www.spyware-removal.co.nr/ Major Geeks is also a great place to ask experts! http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 Just remember that there is no reason to go out and spend a bunch of money. There are plenty of free protection out there. Hope this helps. GOOD LUCK AND HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
  7. I've been given this advice by The Tech Guys at my local branch of PC World. I tried it and it worked. Carry out a system restore to a date before the virus entered your computer. It's not difficult to do, but it's best to make sure all valuable files are backed up first. I picked a highlighted date before my computer was infected, and restored it to that date. Unfortunately Windows couldn't restore my PC to the first two dates I picked, but it did restore it to the third, and my problem was solved. You should get your parents to read about anti virus software if they are wary of it. It's valuable software to have on any computer and it saves a lot of trouble in the long run, as does anti spyware software. All in all you tend to end up glad to have both.
