What is the best and most inexpensive Anti Virus software?

Could you tell me what would be the best and most inexpensive anti virus software? Can it be purchased on internet? We have only had the Norton and it expires next month. Do you even need to download one or can you do free scans?

  1. http://www.grisoft.com/doc/10/lng/us/tpl/tpl01 I always found good.
  2. Avast Antivirus, it's totally free and works great.
  3. I think Norton is #1, AVG is free - #2, McaFee - Trash, Others ok.
  4. Avast and Avg are free and perform quite nicely. You can download them both for free.
  5. Nod32 in my opinion! www.nod32.com - I have had it pick up on viruses that norton has never found. They have a 30 day free trial and its only around $35.00.
  6. AVG is the cheapest(free) and one of the best. I use it on my computers and it isn't a memory hog. You can download it at cnet.com.
  7. I highly reccommend Nortons Antivirus. Only $40 at stores, $35 at Costco. E
  8. I have AVG - it works great and it's FREE. It updates the virus library everyday and you can schedule when to scan your pc - just as good as Norton in my opinion...
  9. Norton is the best hands down. But, as it comes to free software, AVG is not bad.
  10. avast.. is the only one that gives you a free copy also for a 64bit machine.. _
  11. Go with Avast or AVG there both free... the best in the game. I hear that Zone Alarm (fantastic FREE firewall App) just made a deal with Kaspersky (The best Anti Virus program) for there security suit 7.0. Am so getting this when it comes out... Zone Alarm = best firewall & Kaspersky = best Antivirus program... it's a match made in heaven.
  12. I would rather go blind then EVER use nortons again it is a Major resource HOG.And would crash constantly. eTrust Antivirus is the choice of Microsoft and I have never had any problems with it, it doesn't clog your PC with background processes and works flawlessly with all versions of Windows except Vista. Look at it at- http://www.tigerdirect.com
  13. If you have Norton Anti Virus that is 2003 or older (no older than 2002 for XP) then completely uninstall it from your computer. Then reinstall it and you will get your virus updates for another year. I do this all the time and I have never had but one virus and Norton took care of that. The Norton web site will tell you that you need the newest virus program that they make. However, it is known in computing circles that the newest Norton anti virus program has lots of issues with XP and it has issues with being a system drain along with many other problems as well. So stick with the older version, keep it updated and do what I just told you and you will be fine.
  14. this is a technical question, where the success you desire depends totally on you. Avast, is kool but slows down my pc, Norton is ok, so also is Avg, but all of them miss things that the modern day hacker has injected into my pc. I will recommend Avira antivir, any of their security suite is ok and you are totally protected. To best give you a chance to make your decision yourself , follow the white rabbit http://majorgeeks.com/downloads29.html You will find more than you need and have the chance to experiment which solution best suits you
  15. I do not know what you had in the past, but if you asked me what would you use to protect your computer? I would say "System Mechanic 6 Professional". Now there's a new one coming out called "System Mechanic 7 Professional" for 2007. I've had in the past "Mcafee". I had "Norton" but if you want one that kicks ass, an protects you computer, try the System Mechanic. $69.95 at Best buy, or $39.95 at Wal-Mart, I did an I'm happy-er than a tick on a fat hound ever sense.
