What are the disadvantages and advantages of an outdated anti-virus?

If an anti-virus programme is out of date, and i am still using it on my system, can there be some problems that may occur in my system? Can viruses attack my system due to an outdated anti-virus?

  1. As long as you're still updating the virus definitions, you'll be fine. I'd actually prefer an older version because it will use up less resources.
  2. I agree with the first answer, but if your talking about having an outdated virus definitions, then yes, you could be attacked by virus, since every second there's some crazy programmer making a virus...
  3. there are two items for update 1. anti virus software (catch resource) 2. virus definition (DAT file) # anti virus software - it is used resources for attacking by virus and also have own safeguard. when your software is outdated will be dangers for system because new definition of virus have new resources that's come with your anti virus software update and they can't correct them because your software is nor recognize. so u have to upgrade your software also every 6 to 12 month after. #Virus definition : it is database files that store virus information subject to fully safe u have to update your definition file time to time otherwise your software will not detect newly viruses.
