Is it possible to install windows xp using a normal windows xp cd on an acer machine which uses acer discs?
Basically we bought vista the other day and want to install it on the acer machine but ever since we bought this acer pc we've only been able to use acer recover discs 1 & 2 to install windows. It won't accept a normal windows xp cd. There must be a way round this. Help is appreciated. Want to do a fresh install. I hear that these acer machines were built to only boot from their own xp cd's (recovery cds 1 and 2) there must be a way round it though.

- Are you restarting the computer with the Vista cd in the cd-drive? I would think that would start the upgrade.
- Set the bios to boot to the cd. Once you do that place the Vista cd in the drive and reboot. It should give you the option to boot from the cd and that will start the install process. Follow the instructions on the screen. You should be able to use any Windows cd to run a new install.
- Hit the delte button on start up or the f2 to go into the bios. sometimes it is even f1 but go to the boot part of bios and set it to boot from cd that will fix your problem. .Acer boot is set at floppy first and hard drive second so you have to set the bios to boot from cd.
- if you have sata harddrive, the xp installer wiil not see it, however you can do a slipstream of the sata driver along with service packs/fixes/other drivers for your computer using nLite -google it!
