windows xp?

I now have the windows xp disk that came with my previous HP computer. How do I go about uninstalling the windows vista, from my new computer and then installing windows xp with the xp disk? can anyone give me a step by step instruction, on this? I have the original HP disk, and the windows XP disk that came with the computer. Appreciate any help, Thanks.

  1. when you start your computer, put the disk in and when it comes up saying "searching for boot from cd rom, etc" it should read the disk and say press any key to boot from cd rom, hit enter and follow what it tells you to do. Good luck and hope this helps
  2. if u have the install disk from the other pc and the product key on it and never used that product key yourself then u are good to go. if you used the product key u are screwed, because once u install xp the minuite u get online microsoft will ask you to regiter it and they want the product key or they will give u 30 days to registar. then if u haven't they will shut windows down. put the disk in if it does not read it at first, leave the disk in and restart your pc. from there it will lead u thru the install. it will offer you the option to partition. if u partition it, then it will basically split your hard drive in half. leaving vista. so once u finish installing xp when you start your pc it will offer you the option, which os do you want to run vista or xp then you can choose and run your choice. if you do not want that and just want a fresh install of xp and to get rid of vista totally. then dont accept partition when setting up other than that it will walk u right thru the install! good luck
  3. You will be able to install XP and delete the Vista install...To do so...First make sure you can boot from your CD BY: As soon as you turn the computer on start hitting your Del or F2 key - You should also be able to look on the screen and look for something like press F2 to enter set up...Once in the BIOS poke around and look for Boot Sequence - If you look on the screen it should tell you how to change the order. Once changed look on the screen again - It should tell you how to save and exit - Usually F11 Once your able to boot from the CD if you get to a sections that shows different partitions - follow the on screen instructions to delete them - once they are deleted you will have one big "unpartitioned" space. Follow the on screen instructions to install XP on this partition - Do not do a quick format. You'll be back in action in 30 to 45 minutes! Good luck
  4. well insert the xp CD when you boot and select boot from CD and then you have to format one partition of your hard disk ( if you want to keep your vista too select another partition and format it ex:- if you have vista on drive c select drive d to install xp then you will have 2 option to boot from fro windows xp or windows vista) but if you don't want 2 operating systems format the one which already has the old operating system and install xp to that ( during installation the computer restarts a lot of time that's normal just make sue that you have a stable power supply) if you want any other help contact me and the rest is told in the installing process . good luck !!!!!!!1
