How do I erase everything on my computer so I can start fresh on it and still keep windows?

I have a ton of junk on my computer. It is slowing it to a crawl. Even though I stop processes, It still runs slow. I don't need half the stuff on the computer. I want to delete everything on the computer then reinstall Windows. But how can I reinstall Windows? Plus, how do I delete everything? I want to continue using the computer. I have ad-aware and a virus scanner. I have ran both and deleted all temporary files. But computer is till slow.

  1. Virtually impossible.
  2. you need to install new memory space...I did and all is well...costly though...
  3. You need a windows cd to reinstall windows... You would just start up the PC with the CD in the drive, boot to it, and format and reinstall windows, YOU will lose ALL FILES>.. An Alternative is to click START , > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE programs.... go through and remove what you do not want in programs... Then go to your documents and delete all the files you dont want... If you system is slow you may want to check it for spyware.
  4. If you bought a new computer, you must have received a reinstall disc with your computer. if not, you would need like a windows XP OS CD which you could use to format your computer, which would basically wipe out your computer and reinstall the OS.
  5. to delete everthing, u must reformat your hard disk, then u neeed need to have the Windows Software or operating system and reinstall it.
  6. One way is to pop in your Windows XP CD (if your an XP user)... Boot up from there (change your BIOS settings to boot from the CD-ROM first)... follow the directions... it has an option to format your HardDrive... change its type from FAT to NTFS...
  7. www.pcpitstop.com run a scan it will show you all programs and what they do.Delete what you dont need.
  8. Try system mechanic first - see if that speeds things up. Free trial download for 30 days.
  9. go to a site called cclean.com there is a tool on there that is free and will clean all the crap off of it. or you could go into your control panel and click on maintenaince and clear out your temp files, they take a lot of space. or do a system restore, which is not the same as system recovery, system restore wipes your comp clean, back to factory settings, just check online how to do it as i have forgotten, sorry.
  10. You can clean your computer up and get rid of the junk by using a couple free programs. One is CCleaner and the other Ad-Aware. You can get these at download.com. Also, you can go into msconfig (start >> Run >> type msconfig, go to startup tab, uncheck undesirable programs) and get rid of programs that you don't need. Make sure and be careful with msconfig though so you don's accidently get rid of important programs. Google the programs first to make sure you should remove them. Try these steps to get rid of spyware and junk and see if that speeds it up. Good Luck.
  11. Put your Windows XP disk into your CD/DVD drive, and once you get to the point that it asks you where to install Windows, don't just delete the entire C:\ partition. (You'll want to burn all your important files to CD/DVD first) Then, create a partition on C:\, then tell Windows to install to C:\. When it asks you how do you want to format, tell it NTFS, not the quick version. Windows pretty much installs itself these days.
  12. best way is......save all your work to disks and reinstall windows from fresh. chances are you have malaware all over and it will save you time and headaches to clean it all. also theres the possibility of you running out of memory.

  14. You can do a Destructive Recovery or what is called a factory reset Turn off the computer and then turn it on again tap the F10 key repeatedly when the computer is coming back on when window`s is loading. Once the black screen with the hash lines at the bottom appears you can stop tapping. When the next screen comes up push The Destructive Recovery button it is under the Advanced Options button. But make sure that you back up on to a CD what ever you want to keep.Because it will delete every thing.and it will reinstall window`s just like it was when it came from the factory I hope this can help you.
