How can I speed up displaying files in a folder with Windows XP?

When I had Windows 98 and opened a folder, the files in it displayed instantly. I noticed that they load much more slowly with Windows XP even when I disabled the Indexing command. Some folders I have contain thousands of files (average size of around 60 KB) and the more files in a folder, the longer it takes them to appear on the screen. Any more suggestions on how I can speed up the files displaying? Thanks.

  1. well you can download a program called speed up my pc, which speeds up your windows and removes unwanted files that could be slowing down your pc.
  2. You may have noticed that everytime you open My Computer to browse folders that there is a little delay. This is because Windows XP automatically searches for network files and printers everytime you open Windows Explorer. To fix this and to increase browsing speed, you can disable the “Automatically search for network folders and printers” option.
  3. write in notepad mystring=(80000000) then save it as ram.vbe, when ever you want to speed it up just double click on it. or you can put it in startup
  4. You can do this by clicking Control Panel > Appearances and Themes > Change computer's theme > Windows Classic. This may look not as sleek as the XP version, but definitely loads faster. :)
  5. defragment
  6. You can try to clean your registry, this usually solves problems like this.
  7. or more memory a memory card.
