My laptop got stolen at work with a locked office can i get reimbursed for it?

I left my laptop at work for the family long weekend in a closed office and only 3 people have the key.My manager me and this girl that works with me.My manager did not have a work computer for me so he asked me to bring in my laptop should they reimburse me for it?And if they did would it be proper for them to reimburse me the full amount or the amount my laptop would be worth now?

  1. Who's to say it was in your office. You should have had lo-jack on your lap top. It's a Handy program to have.
  2. If they asked you to use your own, I would say yep, they're responsible. Did you file a police report? Usually for thefts, it's based on what you paid for it. Provide them with receipts, and any software or hardware upgrades you paid for.
  3. have you contacted your homeowner's insurance?
  4. most of the time, they are not responsible for items left on premises... sorry. I would file a police report if you have not already. And they will ask you if you would like to press charges.. That is the only way you will get anything from the company. If you deny to press charges then you cannot ask for compensation. Sorry. as for how much the computer is worth, they would look it up. If you have the receipt, then it would be the price you paid... if you do not, they would do it like Kelly blue book for cars. they would price the computer and add in the extras you put in it like software and so on.
