- If its a modem then no you cant connect both at the same time. You can install the software but youd have to plug in the USB to the computer you are using. Get a wireless router, that way you can have both on at the same time
- Go to your local computer store and buy a wireless router connect the laptop through wireless and you can use both at the same time
- you can not directly connect to a modem that is being used by another computer, you need some kind of router. you can either replace the modem with a ready made , off the shelf modem/router or alternatively, set your PC so that it acts as a router, and then connect your laptop to the PC, and share the Internet.
- You need a router to have both on at the same time. Your modem might have a USB and an Ethernet port on it, but its only capable of using one or the other, not both together. You can get a router at any electronics store, their fairly cheap and relatively easy to setup.
- why do not you try to put your recovery discs that came with your laptop and try look for the program that is related to the modem company and after you find it, install the application again. I hope my answer will be helpful.
- On the taskbar there should be I think 2 little computer icons(thats what I have),move your cursor over them until you find one called "Wireless network Connection", double click on it then click on refresh network list, if it finds a network click on connect. If you don't find it go to "My network places". Hope that helped!
- sounds like you need a router to make a simple network
- router will solve your problem just decide if you want the laptop to be wireless or wired it will help with your decision on what to purchase, also some modems from your isp will have an rj45 conection "ethernet", and a usb connection in that case if there close to one another you dont need a router if you dont mind draggin around a cable for a short distance . you might have to reinstall your device drivers the whole disc or just the usb drivers if you know how to do that if your getting an usb error hard to tell with out seeing it "this is for highspeed internet i hope it will not work for dial up.
- There should be a socket on the modem for a LAN cable - go to your local retailer and ask for one of them and it should be fine - it'll require no software installation on your laptop as it's a direct link to the modem. Have fun! And although everyone's going on about routers, there may well be an Ethernet or LAN plug on your modem - they're all different.
