What is the best laptop for value on the market these days?

Never had a laptop before, don't know what I should look for and what is most important features in a laptop. Please help!

2. well, it depends on the purpose of your laptop. if you want portability, get light laptops such as the macbook air. but then it's hard to have really fast processors or hard drives on thin laptops. if you want performance, get the macbook pro or the vaio notebooks. the thing you want to look for in a laptop is processor, such as 2.4 GHz. the bigger the number the better. hard drive space such as 250GB, and also the bigger the number the more things you get to put in it. also graphics, if youre into games such as the nvidia geforce 8600GT. i have a macbook pro and it works fabulously. it's fast, smart, and easy to use. so i hope my advice helped. good luck buying your laptop!
3. Most important must have features: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (1.83 ghz) 2 GB RAM 160 GB Hard Drive These are the minimums (especially for Vista) so if you can afford anything bigger and better then go with that. I suggest you check out www.hp.com to shop around for a new notebook.
4. I would recommend a toshiba its a very good computer i have one and i have had it for a few years and it still works great.
5. Friends don't let friends buy Dells. I would check out Toshiba and Sony. Granted, you'll be paying a little more... but remember the old saying, "You get what you pay for."
