How do I set my laptop to hibernate when the battery dies?

Just got a new HP Laptop, brand new, with windows Vista. The first time I used the whole battery, the battery died, and the machine just shut off and lost all of my data. My old laptop would hibernate when the battery died (saving all my data). How do I change this setting? Is there something wrong with my laptop? Any help would be, really, really appreciated! I already look in Power Options, the only ones that are there are for closing the lid, and for setting when it sleeps. This must be specific to Vista.

1. (In XP, might be same for Vista...)Under control panel, there is a category for power options...mess with those until you find a configuration that you are comfortable with. Again, this is for XP...I don't know if its the same for Vista...
